WHAT IS LIPOABDOMINOPLASTY?

Lipoabdominoplasty is a combination of liposuction and abdominoplasty. Thus, excess fat tissue is removed and at the same time reshaped, using a system that sucks out the fat in a controlled manner, and the excess skin, also known as the "abdominal apron" is removed.

Abdominoplasty is recommended after childbirth, radical weight loss or aging. Another benefit of abdominoplasty is the tightening of the abdominal wall muscles and the removal of stretch marks, if they are found in the lower abdomen.

These two surgeries are not treatments for obesity, nor can they replace an active lifestyle or proper diet.

TYPES OF ABDOMINOPLASTY

Depending on the patient's specific needs, abdominoplasty can be of several types:

Total abdominoplasty includes, in addition to an incision along the lower abdomen, another incision in the navel. Excess skin is removed (from above the belly button to the pubic area), the muscles are aligned and tightened, while liposuction can help improve the appearance of the area.

Partial abdominoplasty is intended for people with lax skin and an outward projection of the area below the navel. A single incision is made in the pubic area (variable size according to need, a few centimetres or the entire length of the abdomen). This will remove excess skin, tighten the muscles and in some cases use liposuction.

Extended abdominoplasty is a variation of the traditional procedure that involves making incisions on either side of the waist (low enough to be hidden below the panty line) to remove excess skin and fat from the hips and thighs.

WHAT WILL THE INCISIONS AND SCARS LOOK LIKE?

The incision used in total abdominoplasty joins the pelvic bones in a "u" or "v" shape, low enough to be camouflaged under the bikini line. A second incision is the one at the navel. Following mini abdomnioplasty, there is a single scar, placed near the pubic bone. The size depends on the amount of tissue to be removed. In the case of extended abdominoplasty, the scars are longer and go higher up.

RECOVERY AFTER LIPOABDOMINOPLASTY

  • if you get permission to be discharged the same day at home, you must have someone to guide you, because after the anesthesia wears off you will feel dizzy, nauseous and disoriented
  • you have to leave your family and household chores to someone else
  • you will wear a special compression corset for a few weeks to reduce swelling and to support the skin in the adjustment process
  • if suturing is done with traditional sutures, they can be removed after about a week or two
  • you'll need a leave of absence of about two weeks

RESULTS

The results after lipoabdominoplasty are permanent, they are also subject to the passage of time, i.e. the skin will sag, but not for long, and, of course, if the adipose tissue will gather. If you decide to go through a pregnancy, the walls of the abdomen will relax again, so the procedure is indicated after the decision not to have children.
