Vaginoplasty (also known as posterior colporrhaphy) is a surgical procedure designed to tighten the vagina and is recommended for patients with significant laxity that cannot be resolved by the non-surgical laser method.

When can vaginoplasty be performed?

Vaginoplasty can be performed on women who, after the birth of a child, are left with major vaginal laxity caused by stretching of the tissues and separation of the muscles. This lack of tone can contribute to sexual dysfunction.

What is vaginoplasty?

With vaginoplasty surgery the doctor joins the separated muscles and the extra skin at the back of the vagina is removed. Also during the operation, the outer skin may be removed for a more aesthetic appearance. The procedure can be done under local anaesthesia, but for more comfort, the patient can opt for general anaesthesia.

Risks

Risks after vaginoplasty may include infection, bleeding or pain.

Recovery

Patients can book up to two weeks off. During the first days there may be deep pain and for eight weeks internal tampons cannot be used, sexual contact is also forbidden during this period.

What is vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to restore the vaginal canal that has lost tone due to childbirth or the natural aging process. Surgical rejuvenation of the vagina can correct pronounced vaginal laxity caused by stretching of tissues, excessive relaxation of vaginal muscles and weakening of the perineum. Vaginal rejuvenation procedure helps to increase vaginal tone and muscle contraction power, as well as to reduce the diameter of the vaginal canal by reducing excess mucus. As a result, this procedure can contribute to more intense sensations during intercourse.

What are the medical indications for vaginoplasty?

Cronos Med's gynaecologist specialising in aesthetics can help you discover if vaginoplasty is the optimal choice in your case. This procedure is done only on the recommendation of your doctor and after a thorough consultation. In general, vaginal rejuvenation surgery is recommended if vaginal laxity is pronounced and cannot be corrected by non-surgical methods, such as laser treatment. This procedure may be an option for women who have had multiple natural births, have a large vaginal canal size or vaginal or uterine prolapse.

How long does the vaginoplasty procedure take?

Vaginoplasty procedure generally takes 1-2 hours, but the time required may vary from case to case. Vaginoplasty is performed under general or local anaesthesia and requires special preparation, including thorough pre-operative investigations and a diet at least 8 hours before surgery. Our doctors at Cronos Med will provide you with all the necessary information so that the whole process goes as smoothly as possible. In the first days after the operation, your doctor may recommend that you eat liquid and semi-liquid foods and avoid physical exertion. You should also avoid sexual contact during the first 4-6 weeks after the operation.
