Labiaplasty

Cosmetic genital surgery has been gaining momentum lately, and more and more women are turning to surgery to improve their appearance or to remedy certain problems in the genital area. One such surgery is labiaplasty.

ABOUT LABIAPLASTY

Labiaplasty or vulvar surgery is a surgical procedure to reduce the size and correct the shape of the labia. The labia minora (inner labia) and labia majora (outer labia) are made up of the labia minora (inner labia) and the surgery can be done for either of these areas, but the most common surgery is for the labia minora.

LABIAPLASTY SURGERY

The operation can be performed with local anesthesia, supplemented with intravenous sedation, but also with total anesthesia in order to increase the patient's comfort.

THE OPERATION

Throughout the operation, the patient is monitored by an anaesthetist. The operation itself is carried out as follows:

Operation of the labia minora - an incision is made at the boundary between the labial skin and the mucosa, then a certain amount of skin is removed, keeping in mind that they must be symmetrical. This procedure can also be used to remove excess skin from the clitoris so that it is better exposed during sexual intercourse;

Big labia operation - liposuction is performed, if the labia have a prominent appearance, or own fat transfer, to restore the volume lost due to weight loss or age.

After the surgery, bruising and swelling will appear locally, but they will disappear once they heal, in two weeks at the most. Postoperative pain may occur, but this will be kept under control with medication. These are all typical effects of labiaplasty.

RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS

As with any surgery, it should be mentioned that the following complications may occur with labiaplasty:

  • Sangerari;
  • Infections;
  • Allergic reactions to the anaesthetic.
Other complications may include:

  • Scar;
  • Low sensitivity in the genital area.

RECOVERY

Recovery can take anywhere from a week to several months for the area to be completely healed. During this period, it is very important to maintain good intimate hygiene to prevent infection, especially as the area cannot be dressed.

Washing with warm water and a pH-neutral soap or gel for intimate hygiene and wearing loose underwear to allow healing are recommended. Also, sexual rest for up to six weeks and avoidance of exercise are required.

Depending on the patient, the doctor will make a series of specific recommendations for the recovery period, so that the discomfort is minimal and healing takes place without further problems.

What is labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the labia. The labiaplasty procedure is most commonly performed on the labia minora to remove excess tissue and give a symmetrical appearance. In the labia majora, the prominent appearance can be reduced by liposuction, or lost volume can be added by transferring own fat. The labia operation brings both aesthetic benefits, by correcting asymmetries, and functional benefits, increasing comfort during sexual intercourse and promoting optimal hygiene by removing excess tissue.

How is the recovery after labiaplasty?

Recovery time following lip rejuvenation surgery varies, but most symptoms gradually disappear over the first two weeks. It can take up to 6 weeks for the local oedema to subside. Final results can generally be seen about 4-6 months after labiaplasty. In order for the healing process to go as smoothly as possible, Cronos Med doctors may recommend that you apply cold compresses immediately after the procedure and follow some hygiene rules, such as washing the area with warm water and using a special intimate hygiene gel. You will also be advised to avoid strenuous exertion and sexual activity for a few weeks.
